A CHALLENGE FOR ALL AGRICULTURE STUDENTS

by Francheska Mari Jimenez

For the past five years, CAFENR students' population has increased, most especially in agriculture. Moreover, out of the number of graduates, many are already working – either in government or private sectors.

Agriculture offers many opportunities to students. Besides from the knowledge and skills that can be obtained in the course, agriculture also helps in molding new farmers despite the fast scheme of world's modernization.

Agriculture is now one of the most important sectors not only in the Philippines, but also in the whole world. Because of this, it easy to find jobs related to agriculture.

In the Philippines, only few youths are interested in agriculture. This results to few farmers – food shortage – famine. This is the reason why the government encourages many youth/students to take up agriculture or agriculture-related courses.

These are just some reasons why agriculture-related jobs are in demand. But many of us do not realize that opportunities in agriculture can be maximized if one will engage into business such as poultry and swine raising, plant propagation, landscaping, bonsai culture, etc.

This is a challenge for all agriculture students – to put up their own agri-business that will help them earn money and enhance their skills.

But all of these depends on one's decision: to get employed and work for others or put up an agri-business and give jobs to others.
